It’s our great joy to be the people of Immanuel, a church serving the village of Pepin, here in beautiful Mississippi Bluff country. We are a congregation in the Lutheran tradition with the gifts of individuals from many different faith backgrounds. This diversity creates melodies and harmonies that help all of us be richer community together. We are a real community, real people, with strengths and weaknesses, clarity and questions. Again and again we’ve watched mission, call, and the power of the cross transform our community with great love – and joy – and that’s an incredible gift.

We are thankful for God’s grace-filled presence in worship and visits with friends at the hospital or care center, during bible study or book group, on retreats or over a cup of coffee, through ministries with our kids like Faith Adventures, Living Faith, Christians in Action or Vacation Bible School. It’s our joy to partner with friends across town and across the world – learning how God’s amazing gospel keeps unfolding and inviting us to be part of the story.

The immigrants who formed this congregation in 1889 did so in faith and with good courage. We give thanks for their gifts and the foundation we build upon today knowing we are always being made new in great love.

Meet Our Pastor

Pastor Karna Marks

Pastor Karna Marks came to Immanuel in September of 2000. She has a Bachelor of Science from Moorhead State University, a Master of Divinity from Luther Seminary, a certificate of Spiritual Direction, and is a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator, based on the work of Dr. Brené Brown. She is married to Stephen Marks and they have two children, Dylan and Karolina. They love spending time with family and friends, riding their tandem bike, walking their dogs, and reading good books.

Associate in Parish Ministry

Tom Ahlstrom serves as our Associate in Parish Ministry. Tom’s passion is visiting with friends and neighbors at area care centers, leading worship – especially Hymn Sings, and providing a ministry of hospitality – working with our Property Team to care for our building.

Office Administrator

Laurel Stinson is responsible for supporting the mission of the congregation by creating communications, maintaining church records, the website and the calendar. She serves as receptionist when the church office is open. She orders needed materials and negotiates with suppliers to help manage expenses. Laurel is also our bookkeeper, managing the financial life of our parish.

Church Custodian

Terry (Butch) Goss serves as our church custodian. He is responsible for keeping the church clean and welcoming. He also does the set up and breakdown for the numerous special events that we host here at Immanuel. And on top of these gifts, his comedic timing is outstanding.
